Coolermaster Silencio FP 120 PWM Performance Edition Fan Review

At first sight, the Coolermaster Silencio FP 120 PWM fan is made for the crowd that doesn’t want bells and whistles followed by LED lighting of any kind. But after using it for a couple of months, that impression has changed a bit. At first glance, the CM Silencio FP 120 PWM looks pretty ordinary until you take a closer look at the shape of the sickle-type fan blades.

The packaging contents are down to the basics- four mounting screws and rubber mounts. It should be noted that the wiring for this PWM fan is black and wrapped in a black braided housing. There are no rubber grommets around the screw mounts. While some may prefer having them since CPU cooler fan clips are tight, the plastic frame is strong unlike those translucent type fan frames- the same types where the frames may creak when you install it using the screws. However, the screw mounts do not have the metal threads like in Jetflo 120.

Note that there are two variants of the Silencio FP 120 PWM. One is the SFNL-14PK-R1 variant which we safely can call it as the ‘normal’ version. The Performance edition is SFNL-24PK-R1. The difference in specs are as follows:

Model number R4-SFNL-24PK-R1 R4-SFNL-14PK-R1
LED Colour Non-LED
Dimensions (LxWxH) 120(L) x 120(W) x 25(H) mm
Speed (PWM) 800 – 2400 RPM ± 10% 800-1,400 RPM ± 10%
Airflow 16.5 – 76 CFM ± 10% 16.4-44 CFM ± 10%
Air Pressure 0.48 – 4.8 mmH2O ± 10% 0.47-1.69 mmH2O ± 10%
Life Expectancy 160,000 hrs
Noise Level (dBA) 6.5 – 27 dBA 6.5-14 dBA
Bearing Type Loop Dynamic Bearing (LDB)
Connector 4-Pin (PWM)

Power Consumption 1.92W 0.36 W
Weight 158 g
Accessory
  • 4x Anti-vibration rubber screw
  • 4x Metal screw
Warranty 5 Years 2 years

The performance variant’s max RPM generates a noise level of 27dBA, according to Coolermaster. But truth be told that in closed case conditions (with the system on the floor), you could barely notice it.

Another feature on the Silencio is that it can stop supplying power to the motors if there is a jam or any obstructions. This way the blades and the obstruction are saved from damage- which could be anything from a wire of the fan or some power supply cable tucked away. This is a static pressure fan. The scythe-type fan blade design ensures that majority of the air pushed by the Silencio FP 120 straight enough for it to be ideal use in air coolers and liquid coolers with radiator design.

Coolermaster points out that one of its main features is that this fan has a dustproof level of IP6X. Furthermore, the Silencio FP 120 PWM has 160,000 hours lifespan- 10,000 hours more than what Noctua NF-F12 PWM is advertised with. Coolermaster uses something called Silent Driver IC which is advertised to be different from conventional and competitor’s IC. The end result is that this Loop dynamic bearing fan has a noise level of 6.5- 27dBA with a power consumption rating of 1.92A.
